Love Orbit

my parents are like two planets
they orbit each other
but never touch

like the earth and the moon
one always pulled by the other
not knowing why
switching places over time

they loved each other once
perhaps they still do
or perhaps they are both
lost in the idea of what
love never was

burned by sun flares
scorched by time
hurt by distance
as much as closeness

and so they continue
their orbital dance
seemingly eternally among the stars
or until one disrupts the cycle

I am like Pluto
watching from afar
on the outskirts
and a planet no more
