Flexing my Writing Muscle

While I have written for many years, but now am doing it with more regularity and purpose. I am beyond the halfway point of this 100 words for a 100 days challenge. I am not only flexing my writing muscle, but my sharing muscle as well. It has only been quite recently that I am putting my writing out there to be found and read by others. This is a practice, it takes time and commitment to show up to this. And I know that I need to keep showing up, need to keep writing and need to keep sharing to get better at all of it. It is not easy to do every day, I know that.

Which was then funny for me to realize that I have lived this metaphor of muscle flexing more than where the it actually comes from. For the first time in my life I am working out my body, not just the things I like and know how to do, but moving my body in ways that I didn’t know it could and discovering muscles I didn’t know I had. Flexing and doing the things the trainer says to do. And just this morning it dawned on me that of course this takes time and isn’t some sort of instant gratification thing. It feels differently to do a push-up than to hold a pen or click my keyboard, but the first step for both is showing up. And somewhere down the line they both come back to showing up again and again and again.
