A Letter to This Damn Cough

Dear Cough,

Please leave.
I realize that I have been a rather ungrateful host
but to be fair
you came over uninvited
and stayed after much protest
much duress
and are causing even more daily stress

It’s nicer that you are only stopping by
now in the late evening and early morning
but still, I am asking you to leave
you have stayed here long enough
it’s been pretty rough

Truly, it’s been more than three weeks
and that is quite a long time for any one guest
but especially for one uninvited
and camping out in my chest
